Three Critical Sciatic Pain Mistakes That Keep You In Pain with a Slow Recovery

Everyday we work with individuals to overcome sciatic pain and we’ve often found that there are a lot of misconceptions and false beliefs that can actually hold us back from making a quick recovery.

The following are the three critical mistakes we see people make when trying to recover from sciatic pain and some tips on what you can do to avoid them.

  1. Over Stretching

If you’re searching the internet for ‘sciatic pain stretches’ you may already be on the wrong track. Remember, most sciatic pain is caused by too much compression of the discs that lie in between our vertebrae. Like a jelly donut, this compression can lead to jelly popping out of the donut and putting pressure on our nerves that run down the back of the leg (causing sciatic pain).

In these cases, the cause of sciatic pain isn’t a tight muscle….and overstretching can even make the condition worse. Which is why it’s important to get your sciatic pain assessed to determine the cause and get started on the RIGHT exercises.

  2. Steroid Injections Or Surgery

If you go to a western medical doctor for advice on your sciatic pain, you will most likely be recommended injections or surgery. Most times, the doctor leaves out all the negative consequences that come from such treatments. Including but not limited to…weakened tissues that increase the likelihood of a second, more severe injury, surgical complications that contribute to MORE pain, recovery time and missed days of work that cost more time and money.

Most sciatic pain can be solved WITHOUT injections or surgery - and most patients have much better long term outcomes than those who choose the knife.

  3. Waiting For It To Go Away On It’s Own

Waiting for the pain to go away is always a bad idea. The longer we ignore our sciatic pain, the worse the problem becomes and the harder it becomes to fix. The best way to get back to doing what you love is to get started on a plan to ease pain, get you moving, and build strength so you can feel confident getting back to your favorite activities.
